Effects of Increased Outdoor Time on Myopia Progression among Basic School Children in Africa (Ghana)
Published: 2025-04-25

Abstract

In recent years, the prevalence of myopia among children has been increasing at an alarming rate, with significant implications for long-term eye health. Although genetic factors play a key role in its development, recent research suggests that environmental influences, particularly lifestyle and behavioural modifications, can significantly mitigate the onset and progression of myopia in children. This article reviews current evidence on effective interventions, focusing on outdoor activities, reducing screen time, and early detection to prevent myopia-related complications, ensuring long-term eye health.
